Amal was born in Beirut, Lebanon and moved to the United States in 1979. She graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Pharmacy in 1992. As a practicing Pharmacist, she received several Professional Awards for her compassion and excellence as a Pharmacist. Amal is also a real estate agent at Keller Williams Realty, Memorial. Amal is a philanthropist who believes in humanitarian and civic causes. She has been active in the Houston community, volunteering her time and talent in support of civic, educational, cultural, and humanitarian associations.
She is currently a board member at the Baylor Cancer Center Advocates Council as well as at the Clerical Arts School. She is also an active member of the Ladies Charity Club of Houston, The National Charity League, Arab American national Museum, and was a board member for the Arab American Education Foundation (2010 and 2011).
Amal chaired/co-chaired Galas for the following humanitarian and civic organizations: The Arab American Medical Association (Gala Co-Chair 2003 and Gala Chair 2006), the Arab Cultural Center (Gala Chair 2004), the American Lebanese Medical Association (National Convention Gala Co-Chair 2011, and local gala Chair 2013 and 2015), the American Foundation for Auxilia (2008 & 2010), St. Agnes Academy High School (Gala Chair 2016) and the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Gala Co-chair for 8 consecutive years: 2012 thru 2019). Amal is married to Dr. George M. Nassar and she has 2 daughters, Natalia (18 years) and Daniella (16 years). She is dedicated to her husband and children and believes in strong family values. Her family is always her priority and her strength. Amal credits her parents Maurice and Wilhelmina Zakhem for raising her to be compassionate, supportive, loyal, and loving.
