SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 DEADLINE: April 30, 2025  

The goal of the ALCC Academic & Scholarship Program is to assist students who demonstrate academic achievements and community service to offset some of the college or university tuition costs.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Applicants must be residents of Houston or of the Greater Houston area and of Lebanese descent. Greater Houston area is defined as cities within a 50-mile radius from downtown Houston.
  • Applicants must have an acceptance letter to an accredited college or university or are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Applicable programs: Associated Degree, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master’s, or PhD’s.
  • A completed essay of a minimum of 500 words.
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Applicants must provide documentation of at least 10 hours of community service that corresponds to the current application year. Community service is any unpaid work performed for the betterment of the applicant’s community. Examples of acceptable community service are: ALCC, school, food bank, nonprofit organizations, charity organizations, etc. Proof of community service must accompany the application by completing the associated form.
    NOTE: Unpaid work, such as internships, working for parents’ family business or friends’ offices are NOT considered community service.

2025 Essay Question: (Minimum 500 words)

The ALCC is a nonprofit organization that relies on fund raising to organize community programs. If you are on the board of directors, describe how you would attract membership and how you would raise funds to support the scholarship program.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS CHECKLIST

1. Essay:  In a separate document, please write a minimum 500-word essay. Topic: The ALCC is a nonprofit organization that relies on fund raising to organize community programs. If you are on the board of directors, describe how you would attract membership and how you would raise funds to support the scholarship program. Note: Use of Artificial Intelligence to write your essay will disqualify your application.

2. Official Transcripts: Provide official transcripts of your most current academic year as issued by the educational institution.

3. Proof of Community Service: Provide a letter documenting at least 10 hours of community service or complete the Community Service Completion Form. Applicants must provide documentation of at least 10 hours of community service that corresponds to the current application year. Examples of acceptable community service are: ALCC, school, food bank, nonprofit organizations, charity organizations, etc. Proof of community service must accompany the application by completing the associated form.

REVIEW & SELECTION PROCESS:

For 2025, the ALCC has approved a total of 10 scholarships to be granted to eligible students. Each scholarship amount is $2,500.00. Applications and associated documents must be submitted via the ALCC online application system by midnight, April 30, 2025, to the Academic Scholarship Coordinator (ASC).

The ALCC Scholarship Review Committee will review all applications and select the most deserving applicants. The Committee will inform the applicants of their decision. Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the intended college or university, bearing the name of the recipient. All decisions are final and cannot be rescinded.
